Hansel and Gretel: Revenge is Nice

We learned a couple of things while we were trapped in that house. One, never walk in to a house made of candy. And two, if you’re gonna kill a witch, set her ass on fire. Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters. This came out in 2013, and is about KILLING ALL THE THINGS. Some people will say that not all witches are evil, that their powers could be used for good. I say burn them all! - Hansel With lots of fire. And headbutting. And shooting. And sarcasm. Things this movie isn't: for children.  I feel like whoever wrote this script was just like, "I wanna kill some[...]

Welcome to the Dark House by Laurie Faria Stolarz

When I drove to Las Vegas for ALA, I was very excited for books and author events and to see my awesome Twitter friends in person. One of the things I was most excited about was being able to talk to the editors and publicists at the publishing booths and find out which books they would recommend for horror fanatics. I feel like the YA scene has shifted a bit and we’ve finally begun to see more action in the dark YA, horror, and thriller categories. I did this in the Disney-Hyperion booth. I asked the publicist which book she would recommend me to read for our[...]

What Lies Beneath

With camping season upon us, I've been trolling the internet for various campfire-worthy spooky stories. We like to pack up our gear and head to the nearest body of water on the long weekends -- take a dip, lounge on the beach, swim out to the docks. There's nothing like a still black lake in the wilderness to inspire a fright -- especially when you can't see two feet below you in the water. It's easy to imagine the brush of seaweed as reaching fingers, straining to grasp your ankles and pull you down below. Love it. I'm a huge fan of monsters, so today, I've u[...]

“Happy Independence Day!” said the dead girlfriend (probably)

Today I'm going to link over to a story I stumbled upon right before bed last night. The timing was unfortunate, as I initially got into bed to GO TO SLEEP. Well, sleep came slowly after reading this. I was pretty sure every bump in my house was something supernatural. Something supernatural that was probably coming to kill me slowly. (The sounds were actually coming from my dishwasher, but kitchen appliances been known to become sentient and squish and stab people. Maybe.) Click on OVER HERE to read about the dead girl who Facebook messaged her boyfriend from b[...]

I'm thrilled to tell you I'll be participating in two panels (Romance in Horror and Zombies: The Struggle To Not Be Pidgeonholed Into One Subgenre) AND (EEEEEK!)... my zombies from FATAL have been nominated for Best Zombies! But the best new is, ALL OF YOU CAN GO. Because it's free and it's on Facebook. Isn't that[...]
