The Strain

This weekend, my Direct TV box went dark.

Very, very dark.

Although I can watch everything I’ve recorded, I can’t watch regular TV or record any of my shows.

Which totally sucks.

I’ve missed THE WALKING DEAD and THE VAMPIRE DIARIES, just to name a few.

In preparation for returning this box and in order to get it replaced with a new one, I’ve been binge watching what I have already saved. Some shows I deleted. I can’t watch everything, so I deleted many things I can live without seeing. One show I kept to watch is THE STRAIN. I’m not quite sure why I never watched this, especially since I always enjoy the creations of Guillermo Del Toro. After the first episode I was hooked! This is the first show or movie in a long time that has actually scared me. And that’s saying a lot!

Just look at this poster:

Does that not totally freak you out?!

The show takes place in New York and it follows Dr. Ephraim Goodweather, the head of the CDC (Center for Disease Control). He is called to investigate a series of deaths on an airplane. What they first believe is a viral outbreak is a strain of vampirism. As the virus spreads, Eph joins Abraham Setrakian–former professor and survivor of the Holocaust–and a few others who wage war on the beasts that threaten to take over the city. How? Silver slows the creatures down, but it takes beheading and fire to stop them for good.

Besides the freaky looking vampires, there is a fantastic backstory of the relationship between Abraham and former German soldier and evil Thomas Eichhorst. The end fight promises to be a huge blowout and I can’t wait to see more! If you love horror, this is the perfect show for you!
