This week’s horror movie review is…Rosemary’s Baby (1968). I just happened upon this DVD while looking through the shelves at my local library. It’s not like I’ve never heard of this movie, but I never really was drawn to Rosemary’s Baby. Until now.

Once upon a time, horror movies would build tension with music and layering the story. Rosemary’s Baby does all of these things. I mean, you know in the beginning that something bad is going to happen, but not how. Many horror movies start out with young couple checking out an apartment. Things always begin so nice and happy, until you find out there are witches who want your baby for it’s blood and flesh.

And just when you think you have it all figured out…Wham! The man you thought would save you and your baby, call the bad guys to come get you. Isn’t that what all Satanic cults do? I knew that Guy was getting on my nerves as soon as the movie started. In the end, he allowed the cult to impregnate AND take her baby–all in the name of fame.

As most films are being rebooted, Rosemary’s Baby was made into a 4 hour mini-series in 2014, starring Zoe Salazar.

Have you seen Rosemary’s Baby? Tell us what you think about either version in the comments.
