Victor Frankenstein: Meet Your Makers

Somehow, despite being endlessly excited for the upcoming Victor Frankenstein movie (starring Daniel Radcliffe and James McAvoy, two of my favorites!) I have yet to post about it on The Midnight Society. If you haven't heard about it, this may actually be a blessing, because we still have to wait until November 25th for this to hit theaters. So long! But, still. You need to be informed of its glory. Here's the poster... LOVE! And here is the pretty, pretty trailer. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7pxZxY_Siyc *pets the screen* It's been ages since they've[...]

A New Horror Release: SWEET MADNESS

The verse about Lizzie Borden goes like this: Lizzie Borden took an ax And gave her mother 40 whacks. And when the job was nicely done, She gave her father 41. I remember skipping rope to this very verse, and it's one that isn't really kind to Lizzie--I mean, she was acquitted of the murders. Since then, there have been various retellings of this story, but none quite like the YA version Trisha Leaver and Lindsay Currie are releasing TODAY. Sweet Madness tells the Lizzie Borden tale as seen through the eyes of Lizzie's Irish maid. I was lucky enough to receive a[...]

Horror Clothes – They Are Killer

My fabulous friend Ezekiel shared the BEST website with me today. Have you ever said, “I wish I could feel the warm embrace of Jason Voorhees.” How about, “I desperately want to wrap Halloween around my neck.” What about, "If I looked like Freddy Krueger, I'd get all the girls." Well, your life is about to change! Especially if you're one of those on-it people who do all of their holiday shopping before October and you've got a horror lover on the list. It appears that MondoTees.com has anticipated this and already has the COOLEST clothing and a[...]

Sabrina is Scary as Hell

When I say "Sabrina the Teenage Witch," what image comes to mind for you? This one? Or this one? Or perhaps even this one? Well, unless you've been reading her most recent comic series, I'm guessing it's not this one: If you haven't checked in on everyone's favorite teenage witch lately, you may have missed the memo--Sabrina is scary as hell. In fact, through four issues, I can honestly say Chilling Adventures of Sabrina is one of the scariest, most disturbing comics I've read in years. And if your familiarity with her is through the late 1990s TV show,[...]

Unleashed Awesomeness: Hillary Monahan Interview

Back when fellow Society member, Cat Burglar, International Adventuress, and Supreme Necromancer, Countess Kim von Graff innocently asked me to contribute at YA-Asylum.com (now e-zine Strange Far Places), I started off writing reviews, where I treated YA horror with all the literary criticism I thought the genre deserved. One of the titles in those halcyon days before my brutal murder at the hands of schismatics was Mary The Summoning. It was also my first positive review. Then I had a small heart attack when Hillary tweeted me to say how much she loved my[...]

September #MidnightBooks: The Accident Season by Moira Fowley-Doyle

Moira Fowley-Doyle's The Accident Season has me really excited. Magical realism. Great comp titles. Horror. Also, Fowley-Doyle is an Irish author. Not only do I love reading international authors, but as an Irish American, I have a personal interest in this one. Synopsis For fans of We Were Liars and How I Live Now comes a haunting, sexy, magically realistic debut about a family caught between a violent history, a taboo romance, and the mysteries lurking in their own backyard. It's the accident season, the same time every year. Bones break, skin tears, bruises[...]

My Ghost Hunting Adventure

On August 22nd I met up with the East Central Indiana Paranormal Investigators in Muncie, Indiana. Why? BECAUSE I WAS INVITED TO GO GHOST HUNTING WITH THEM! If you couldn't tell from the all caps, I was so very excited. A fan of the Sy-Fy show Ghost Hunters since its beginning, participating in an actual investigation has been a dream of mine. Ghosts fascinate me. I want to see one, hear one... to experience something, anything paranormal. Just once in my life. Once. Is that too much to ask? Maybe. On meeting the team, I tried to be cool, but who am I kidding[...]

RIP Wes Craven

You've probably heard by now, but Wes Craven passed away on August 30th after losing his fight with brain cancer. He was 76 years old and a super horror champ. He was a writer and director of many horror classics, A Nightmare on Elm St, Scream, and Last House On The Left just to name a few. He's truly a horror legend, and I can't imagine someone who loves horror not knowing and loving at least one of his films. I will admit, I was always a Halloween and Friday the 13th girl (I was brought up on those franchises). Scream and A Nightmare on Elm St are w[...]
