Welcome to the Midnight Society, Erica!

We are extremely lucky to have nine amazing members. Faith, Kira, Kathy, Kim, Amy, Timon, Brian, and Jenna are all so fantastic. So naturally, we couldn't help ourselves when we were having a party this last Saturday night and someone broke out the Ouija board.   That's how we met Erica. We were a little skeptical of the contact until we asked her to reveal herself and well, let's just say that she proved her otherwordliness well enough. We think you'll love her. Really. Just try and ignore the black eyes. Welcome to the Midnight Society Erica! Mi[...]

Creepy Music Videos to Love (Volume 2)

Okay, so anyone who knows me knows what a ginormous music fan I am (see last week's post as one example). So when Jolene posted about creepy music videos the other day, I already knew I had to post some of my own. But before we get started, I must warn you--it's gonna get dark in here. We'll go from least disturbing to most disturbing, so feel free to bail at any point. Or stay for the whole ride--if you dare. Without further ado:   Jeopardy--The Greg Kihn Band This video was a staple of Friday Night Videos and the early MTV era. Not only is the song a[...]

Undying Love.

Hello Kittens,   Well, the month of love is almost gone. I've eaten more than enough chocolate, but there won't be much of a break in that department...my supermarket is already full of mini eggs and chocolate carrots (arguably the best kind of carrot). I've thought a lot about what I wanted my post to be about...I revisited some of my favourite horror ships (Cat and Casper, anyone??), dwelled on flicks that show us real love (ODD THOMAS, *happy sigh*), but I wasn't feeling the urge to write about any of that...While I wanted to stick with the theme of lo[...]

#SpookyAllYear: the 4th Wed #BlogHop

Welcome to #SpookyAllYear, a Midnight Society Blog Hop! You can find the introduction post here. It essentially tells you the blog hop takes place on the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays of each month. You post something Spooky on your blog, and submit the post to the linkup at the bottom of this post. You’re encouraged to visit around to the blogs listed there and enjoy the spooky fun. The ideas for posts are endless (review of a spooky movie you’ve seen, a picture of the mist in your backyard, a spooky book cover, a spooky story you wrote, a recipe for th[...]

Heart-Shaped Box

I can find no better way to say good-bye to the month of love, than the work of Kurt Cobain and Joe Hill. Hill (son of my favorite writer of all time--THE Stephen King), wrote a horror novel titled the same as the smash hit from this grunge rock band. The slaying tune is the perfect match for Joe Hill's horror hit. Although the only thing shared is the title, I can imagine rocking out to this while reading. Can't you? So for those who love horror...give it a try and celebrate the end of February with a good scary story.   Aging, self-absorbed rock star[...]

Creepy Music Videos To Love

We’ve talked horror Youtube shorts, we’ve talked creepy soundtracks, but one topic I don’t think has ever been covered here at the Midnight Society is CREEPY MUSIC VIDEOS. Because I love music and music videos like nobody’s business. And the only way I love music more, is when they are creepy or weird. What are your favorite horror music videos?   Here are some of mine. Prepare for nightmares and excellent beats.                     Michael Jackson THRILLER First things first, one of[...]

Music to Write Scary Stories To: CREEPSHOW Soundtrack

The only thing I love more than horror is music. There is not a day in my life that goes by without music. I listen to it constantly. I grew up in the '80s, and I'm still an old school metalhead to this day (I currently co-host a metal podcast called Thrash It Out). I've dabbled in playing guitar and bass over the years, but the closest I've come to any sort of musicianship is creating theme music for my podcasts and book trailers. My lack of musicianship has only made me appreciate music more though, because it's like magic to me. It's something I am so intim[...]

Curious Things Found on the Internet – Part IV

New stuff! Shenanigans! Weird things! Welcome to the fourth instalment of Curious Things Found on the Internet. We're taking it eclectic this week, and curating a mishmash of different things from various areas, and different parts of the world. Cat funerals! Tiny coffins! The hotel from Stephen King's The Shining! Hell yes. Let's have some fun, and get those inspirational juices flowing.   Curious Things Found on the Internet - Part IV Edinburgh’s Mysterious Miniature Coffins "The “fairy coffins” discovered on Arthur’s Seat, a hill above Edinb[...]

The Couple of Dr. Who…Amy and Rory

Okay, so yes, usually this time I do a post on the monsters of Dr. Who. But it is February and The Midnight Society is celebrating love. *sigh* If you know me, you know that I would rather see a dragon rip someone's head off or demons destroy a small town than kissing. However, on my favorite sci-fi that crosses into horror show, there is a couple that I love. A pair whose love survived all the horror they encountered. Amy and Rory. This charismatic duo faced so many evils on their journey through space and time. Daleks. The Silence. Terrifying living dolls.[...]
