Happy Happy Birthday Kathy!!!!

Happy happy birthday Kathy! The spirit and the fairies are swirling and dancing around, celebrating you out in the graveyard as we speak. They mentioned something about the curse being broken with this birthday, but I'm not entirely sure what that means. We love Kathy for so many reasons. For one, she's the GIF queen. Don't believe me? Follow her on Twitter (you're welcome in advance). She's also an incredible writer. You can read her free scary story Crimson Reality here, you can follow her blog, and you can add her upcoming novel DOORS on Goodreads. The s[...]

Faith’s Favorite Frights #1

Locke & Key is one of my favorite horror comics, ever, so naturally I was super stoked to hear they had a one-shot on the way. According to my local comic seller, who had never read Locke & Key, this is a great way to try out the series and get yourself sucked in if you've never read Locke & Key before. This story came out last week, AND IT'S AWESOME. Even better: in the letters in the back, they say they WILL have a new, seventh volume coming out! And they have plans for more. YES PLEASE! Pick this up at your local comic book store, or get it dig[...]

Twas the Night Before….

Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house Not a creature was stirring, not even my spouse. The stockings were hung by the chimney with flare, In hopes that a parent would put shit in there.   The children were nestled all snug in their beds, Without a clue of the coming dread. You see, they were naughty, horrible brats And something was scurrying about aside from the rats.   When out on the lawn something landed with a splatter, So I sprang from the bed to see a sleigh shatter. Away from the window I flew like the Flash, To[...]

VENOM Is Back!

There was a time that Venom was a horror character in the Spider-Man universe. And if the first issue of Mike Costa's new Venom series is any indication, the horror is back. For those unfamiliar, the story of Venom began in Marvel's 1984 Secret Wars event. Before there was Venom, there was an alien symbiote that was initially thought to be a new and improved costume for Spidey. But in fact, it was an alien lifeform, and as it bonded with Peter Parker, it began to corrupt him. When Peter finally broke free of it, the creature bonded with a host that h[...]

WHY ARE YOU AFRAID OF THAT? The Origin of Our Fears

Not just any fears, but yours. What are you afraid of? Why? There are irrational fears, of course, things that just make us quiver for no reason at all. Then...then there are those real life things that have affected us. A snake bite causes a fear of snakes. A fall creates a fear of heights. Then there are the things that never would have crossed our minds to fear...until we saw it in a movie or read it in a book. That big tree outside your window was fine, until you watched POLTERGEIST. No reason to fear your dreams, until Freddy. Summer camp? No big deal, un[...]

Our Creepy Baby Shower… Surprise!

We have a new addition to the Midnight Society family, that is currently brewing! Member Jenna, the amazing, thoughtful, creative, incredible writer is also great at something else...being a mom! And we're so excited to be able to celebrate by throwing her this digital baby shower. Jenna, we know you have all the essentials but we figured you might need some of these... Jenna, I wanted to give you a very special stroller. I figured you might like it. I also wanted to give you this sweet bib because I think it goes with the theme here. <3 Jolene[...]

Horror Origins: Krampus

Hello, my little Christmas Kittens!   I'm so excited that it's finally December. I feel like my year doesn't start until September - at least the good parts. We get Thanksgiving (Canadian here) Halloween, and then it's Christmas! I fucking love Christmas. I love shopping and eating cookies and hanging out in my jammies. I'm SUPER pregnant so I'm hoping I don't calve before then haha. Wish me luck! Anyhoo - this has a point. It's Horror Origins month here at the Midnight Society, so I chose this week's blog based on one old bad ass...Krampus. Sorry Jolene,[...]

The Tale of The Happenstance Horrigin

When I learned our theme for December was horror origins, my first thought was to my own. Not to the fascinating origins of genre or admirable authors or filmmakers, but to me. My own. My precious, precious origin in horror. Horror origin. A horroigin, if you will. What is my horrigin and how did it get me here, to the incredible support network that is the writers and readers of The Midnight Society? And then I realized, too few people know the whole story. So. Submitted for the approval of The Midnight Society, I call this story The Tale of the Happensta[...]

Happy Birthday Faith McKay!

It's a wonderful day when we get to celebrate Faith McKay. Why? Because she's amazing. No wait, she's more than amazing. In fact, I'm not sure there's a word to properly explain just how amazing Faith is. Which is why we wanted to party together to celebrate her. Her birthday was over the weekend but we feel like she should have the whole week. Don't you agree? If you don't know Faith, you are doing yourself a grave disservice. Not only is she a genius author of the Lacuna Valley series, Deadly Diva series, and the new Stolen Magic series. You can find her on[...]

Addams Family Mansion LEGO SET!

We all went through a phase where we wanted to live in the Addams Family Mansion. Right? Well, now you can. If you're very, very short. Hopefully. So over on the LEGO ideas site, users can vote for ideas they want to see become sets. If an idea gets 10k votes (not an easy feat) that idea is then put through for review for possible production. The Addams Family Mansion has recently pulled those 10k votes and is on it's way to (hoepfully) being approved and turned into an official lego set! You can read an interview with the designer of the set on the LEGO id[...]
