Cthulhu Mythos Movies Done Right

(My series on Silent Hill 2 is on hold at the moment, but it'll return soon with part 746 of 982). Since movies became the dominate form of entertainment, nearly everything is either being considered for a movie, or was turned into a movie. Some IPs are easier to adapt for the screen than others though. Movies need action, visuals , loads of dialogue, and a cinematic universe with at least 36 interconnecting movies. The IP that keeps getting the rawest of the rawest deals is the Cthulhu Mythos. The reasons are obvious, the Cthulhu Mythos is low on action, aggre[...]

NaNoWriMo: On Finishing

Alright guys, we’ve finally made it to the final stretch! We’ve finished 3 weeks of writing furiously and we’ve got just one week left to finish it out. I don’t know about you guys, but I’ve had a LOT of feelings so far in this process. There’s been a lot of: And also some: and: There’s even been a little: But the best parts have been: And those are the parts that make this whole thing worth it. If you’re like me you’ve still got quite a bit of writing left to do, but you can see the finish line out there in the distance. Any[...]

11 Years of #NaNoWriMo: Lessons I’ve Learned

I've participated in NaNoWriMo eight times since 2004. Each novel has taught me about writing and what it means to be a writer. This November, I'm giving thanks for all I've learned.  Caveat: Lest you think these titles are oddly fragmented, know that I don't release my actual titles online. These are just placeholders:) 2004: I can write 50,000 words in a month. To Live On was YA at its sappiest. If anyone ever reads it, I will die of shame. It doesn't deserve to even have been written, but it was. Anyone can be a writer, and they can write anything they wan[...]

NaNoWriMo: aka WRITE ALL THE WORDS!!!

Please forgive me if today’s post is a short, hot mess. I’ve spent the past week participating in NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) and today was a long, writing filled day. You might have noticed that Amy’s Writing Bloody Post this week was about her 2015 NaNoWriMo plan. Or maybe you’ve seen the hashtags #NaNoWriMo or #DoubleUpDay trending on twitter? One thing is for sure, if you are anywhere on the Internet where writers hang out, you’ve heard about NaNoWriMo. But what exactly is NaNoWriMo? In the simplest of terms it is a month where all[...]

The Inevitable Silent Hill 2 Post: Part One

(This post contains spoilers for Silent Hill 2. You've been warned.) Yeeeeeah, I kinda hoped I never got desperate enough I resorted to writing about this one, because I'm pretty sure this will turn into a dissertation. There's been a lot of virtual ink spilt on Silent Hill 2 and honestly, I don't think there's anything I can I add to the discussion... so obviously there'll be at least three posts about the game I have to say about. Part One will discuss one meaning of the story while Part Two will look at the themes and symbolism, and Part Three will look at[...]

November #MidnightBooks: The Dead House by Dawn Kurtagich

The Dead House by Dawn Kurtagich sounds like the perfect merger of mystery and psychological thriller for a chillingly good time! Synopsis Part-psychological thriller, part-urban legend, this is an unsettling narrative made up of diary entries, interview transcripts, film footage transcripts and medical notes. Twenty-five years ago, Elmbridge High burned down. Three people were killed and one pupil, Carly Johnson, disappeared. Now a diary has been found in the ruins of the school. The diary belongs to Kaitlyn Johnson, Carly’s identical twin sister. But Carly d[...]

Creeptastic Costume Ideas

Obviously, here at The Midnight Society we are huge fans of Halloween. It’s full of Horror movies, haunted houses, and scary costumes! What more could we ask for! But, if you’re like me, sometimes coming up with all the details of a creepy costume can be tough. That is where I turn to Pinterest! As everyone knows, Pinterest is the place to go for creative ideas. I browse the app on my phone just about every spare chance that I get and I find endless writing ideas. It’s a great site for inspiration of just about any kind. Writing tips and quotes, hair and m[...]
