Like the STRANGER THINGS Score? Check Out S U R V I V E

Like everyone else on the planet who is remotely interested in horror, I recently devoured the eight episode masterpiece that was Stranger Things. As someone who grew up in the '80s, this series has earned a very special place in my heart. And I could write for days about the loving homages to King, Carpenter, Koontz, Barker and many other horror masters that the Duffer Brothers wove into the show. But that's not what I'm here to write about today. See, there are few things that I love even more than horror, but one of them is music. There are places where my lov[...]

Greetings From the Hollywood Tower Hotel!

Hey kids, my post this week is a bit different since I've been at Disney World all week with the family. I did manage to squeeze in a bit of horror though, when we visited Disney Hollywood Studios. For it's at that park where there is a monument to my favorite television show of all time, The Twilight Zone. The Twilight Zone Tower of terror is a ride centered around a haunted elevator. Unlike a lot of other freefall rides, this one is actually pulled down at a speed of almost 40mph by cables attached to the bottom of the elevators. It also bobs back up, and shu[...]

The Couple of Dr. Who…Amy and Rory

Okay, so yes, usually this time I do a post on the monsters of Dr. Who. But it is February and The Midnight Society is celebrating love. *sigh* If you know me, you know that I would rather see a dragon rip someone's head off or demons destroy a small town than kissing. However, on my favorite sci-fi that crosses into horror show, there is a couple that I love. A pair whose love survived all the horror they encountered. Amy and Rory. This charismatic duo faced so many evils on their journey through space and time. Daleks. The Silence. Terrifying living dolls.[...]

Monsters of Dr. Who… The Silence

After a brief break from this series for all things Halloween and Christmas, I am back to share my love of Dr. Who...a sci-fi show that crosses into the wonderful world of horror. I've returned with one of my favorite monsters. The Silence. Don't you just love him? Created by Steven Moffat, these terrifying creatures appeared in the 2011 season opener Part 1 "The Impossible Astronaut" and Part 2 "Day of the Moon" where they met the 11th Doctor played by Matt Smith. Over six and a half feet tall, they can absorb electricity and use it as a weapon.  [...]

#AHS: My Favorite Characters

Since the fifth season of American Horror Story is underway, I'm reviewing my favorite characters, as played by the repertory cast, organized in order of how long they've been on the show. All 5 Seasons Sarah Paulson's first role was small, as Billy Dean Howard, a psychic experience with helping ghosts move on from murder houses. Since then, her roles have been larger: Lana Winters (Asylum's investigative journalist), Cordelia Foxx (the new Supreme), and conjoined twins Bette and Dot Tattler. This season, she plays junkie ghost Hypodermic Sally. This last role, w[...]

Five Traditions that Scream Halloween

Eeeeeek! It’s almost Halloween! This final week of October we, here at The Midnight Society, are celebrating Halloween traditions. There are five traditions that make Halloween… Halloween. At least for me. First… costumes. Halloween was always a special day when I was a kid. My mom made us our costumes every year and did her best to make our dressing-up dreams come true. Second…pumpkin carving. Every year Dad carved a pumpkin, and each Halloween night it would shine from our front window. When we got old enough, my sisters and I got to carve o[...]

Spoiler-Free Review: ASH VS. EVIL DEAD–Episode 01

I have seen the premiere of ASH VS. EVIL DEAD, and it is glorious. Before we get into that thought, allow me to set the scene. I attended New York Comic Con this past weekend, and ASH. VS. EVIL DEAD pretty much ruled the entire show. Smack dab in the middle of the front lot was an exhibit that allowed fans to go into the trailer that Ash lives in on the new show. On Saturday at 3pm, over a thousand EVIL DEAD fans filed into the historic Hammerstein Ballroom for the ASH VS. EVIL DEAD panel. Moderated by Kevin Smith, the panel featured the cast of the[...]

American Horror Story: Hotel is Bizarre and Sexy…

...and I love it. **Caution: slight spoilers ahead**     In case you missed it, American Horror Story Hotel premiered this week and it was UH-MAY-ZING!! Let me start by saying that I just love the tone that this first episode set up for the rest of the season. It is SO dark and grotesque but also sexy and mysterious too. I was definitely given a sense that this season will be very different from all four of the previous seasons of the anthology show and after watching on Wednesday I can say I think that this is going to be an unforgettable season[...]

They’re coming…

Hello Kittens, As you may have noticed, it's GHOST WEEK!!   Now I love Ghosts. I love ghost movies (still undecided on the Poltergeist remake), ghostly books, and especially ghost-hunting reality TV shows. My favourite ghost hunting show of them all is GHOST ADVENTURES. If you're unfamiliar with the show, it follows ghost hunting trio Zak, Nick, and Aaron as they check out the world's most haunted locations. These dudes are all over the states, Europe, and even Japan! Each episode starts with a local history, interviews, and a run down of the place. Th[...]

Constantine: The Hellblazer Provides Jumping-On Point for TV Fans

If dug the very short-lived Constantine TV series, and want to follow more of the character's adventures, you should be checking out Constantine: The Hellblazer. It's a prefect series to dive into the character with, as it requires no prior knowledge of the character, and there's enough of the spirit of the TV show to feel familiar. James Tynion IV and Ming Doyle have crafted a first story arc that provides an interesting mystery while giving us a look at John Constantine's origin as well. The simple set up is that Constantine is haunted by the ghosts of every[...]
