Camp NaNoWriMo – Horror Style

2014-Participant-Facebook-Cover (1)

Are any of you doing Camp NaNoWriMo?

Now, I know that Camp NaNoWriMo isn’t completely horror related, but it just so happens that the novel I’m working on for Camp NaNoWriMo is a YA horror novel, titled Katherine In the Lighthouse. Because if there’s one thing that I think the young adult and new adult writing community needs, it’s horror.

LighthouseThe novel I’m working on is for an idea I had a while ago. I started writing it and I quickly fell in love with the concept and the characters. And then I had one of those realizations that you dread as an author. That what I was writing, just didn’t work. None a single bit of my 50,000 would do. To follow my vision and stay true to the story I’d need to scrap all of it. And start over.

I sulked about it for a while, but then realized that there was no better time than now to start it.

Let me share with you a little bit about my story.

b01363dfc5d00ba74305772f0efd641eTitle: Katherine in the Lighthouse

Genre: YA Horror

What it’s about: A 16 year old girl moves into a haunted lighthouse with her parents. Tragedy ensues.

Wordcount: I’m 30,000 words into it right now.
Inspiration: To keep me inspired I’ve made a vision board on Pinterest and I’ve started a Spotify music playlist for it too.

What I love about it most: There are so many things. For one, I’ve never written an animal as a secondary character before, so that’s fun and different. In this novel, Bree’s pet dog Kipp plays an important role in the book. I just love writing about lighthouses, stormy seas, and ghosts. I love it so much!

So tell me…

What are you writing right now? Is there a horror novel on the horizon I should be watching out for? What is your Camp NaNoWriMo project?
