Not too long ago, while on Facebook (the place where I find an absurd amount of creepy things) my eyes caught on a story someone shared. The headline gave me chill bumps. It read: Man Receives Facebook Messages From Dead Girlfriend. Have you guys read this story? I feel like you might have.
Well, I knew it was fake, right. But that didn’t stop me from clicking the link… and reading the insanely long story full of screen caps and semi-convincing pictures. I have to say, by the end of that story, my heart was pounding like a jackhammer on steroids. Just the mere thought that this guy’s dead girlfriend might have found a way to communicate with him, and the manner in which he told the story… it got me, dude.
I don’t want to spoil it in case you haven’t read it, but the end was a super disappointing cliche. However up to that point, I was DEDICATED TO THIS SUCKER. It made me wonder, what was it about THIS story that hooked me? Well, I figured it out. It’s the idea that it’s “true”. You’ve seen horror movies that were “based on actual events” like The Conjuring, Haunting in Connecticut, and The Exorcism of Emily Rose. To me, these are always the creepiest. And it’s because they maybe, possibly, sorta, could be partially, almost true.
