This month we are celebrating horror houses, and since it’s also my day to show you how my favorite science fiction show crosses into horror, I’ve combined the two.
I give you one of my favorite Dr. Who episodes, written by Neil Cross, airing in April of 2013…
Setting…1974, Caliburn House, a huge, creepy mansion at night during a thunderstorm.
Our cast…
Professor Alec Palmer, ghost hunter.
Emma Grayling, psychic.
Clara Oswald, a hesitant explorer, constantly turning to find nothing behind her.
The Doctor, who thought finding a ghost would be fun and finds that he can be afraid, but still adds humor to the situation.
We meet Prof. Palmer surrounded by all his ghost hunting machines…and Emma calling to the ghost who resides in the house. Enter The Doctor…
“And you are?” ~ Prof. Palmer
“Ghostbusters!” ~ Clara
“I’m The Doctor.” ~ The Doctor
“Dr. what?” ~ Prof. Palmer
“If you like.” ~ The Doctor
I chuckled, thought I’d share.
However, this episode made my horror-loving heart go all jumpy. A really cool haunted mansion. Strange sounds. Cold spots. Dark doorways. Lightning illuminating a creepy figure.
Wandering shadowy hallways by candlelight…
Words appearing on a wall.
A ghost…
But the ghost isn’t a ghost…she is in fact a time-traveler stuck in a pocket universe where a moment for her is thousands of years for us. And she’s being chased by a monster…
But spoilers!
I loved this episode because of all the creepy, sure, but also because of the story, the characters. How we face the end and fear to be alone. And don’t want to be alone. How…
And a quick side note…Happy (late) St. Patrick’s Day! Join me TONIGHT on Twitter!
