For the last ten years, I’ve been putting on a Halloween writing showcase. This year is a special one because it’s our ten year anniversary of celebrating Halloween, spooky creators, and the wonderful hauntings that come with autumn.
We are looking for special creators to help celebrate our 10th anniversary!
10th Annual Spooky Showcase: Haunt
I am pleased to present an open submission call for Haunt, the 10th annual Spooky Showcase highlighting creative works from our fabulous community of authors, illustrators, designers, and creatives. The Spooky Showcase supports the clever minds of creatives around the world through short stories, artistic creations, and more celebrating October magic, the macabre, and mysterious.
This year’s theme is Haunt. All submissions must include this theme.
What is a haunt?
Haunts can be many things… Haunts can be people, places, things, decisions, states of mind, and even love. Something that haunts you in the dead of the night, pulling your covers off inch by heart-pounding inch. The rattling in an old house that you know is not the pipes. An old graveyard that townies refuse to set foot in after midnight. It can be loved ones or women in white standing along a deserted highway waiting for passersby.
We can be haunted by decisions and feelings and moments of weakness that torment every waking moment beyond. Haunts can be love gone well, or very very wrong. A haunt can happen on Halloween night or every hundred years or every night.
Sometimes haunts are secrets, tucked away in an old diary, never to be seen again…until it is. Or maybe your idea has nothing to do with any of those. As long as your creation surrounds a haunt, whatever that means to you, you are doing it right.
