Vintage Photos You’ll Wish You Hadn’t Seen

Have you ever seen a photo so creepy it didn't just send chills up your spine, but up your entire skeleton? Yep, the horror lover in me lives for that. But something interesting happens when I see a creepy photo that is vintage. I don't know how or why but the scary level increases to maximum. Since Halloween is nearly upon us, I thought I'd compile a group of the creepiest vintage photos I've seen... and you'll wish you hadn't seen. Muahahaha. Enjoy!                   So? What do you thin[...]

Me & Tate Langdon 4Eva

The new season of American Horror Story is just on the horizon and I am SO excited to see the show's token bizarre creepiness taken in this freaky direction. (Kira did a speculative post about the upcoming season here.) I'm doing cartwheels over Evan Peters (who is a total cutie butt, and I only feel like a little bit of a dirty old lady saying it) coming back, this time as Jimmy Darling, son of the freak show owners. Last season, Peters' character Kyle Spencer was a bit wasted. He was something of a Frankenstein's monster, which is a neat concept, but the writ[...]

Jekyll and Hyde Chamber of Horrors

What could be scarier than Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde? Their underground lab and chamber or horrors of course! Check out this little taste:   Last year I actually took my kids to New York and into this scary attraction. My daughter refused to go past the door, but my son and I were able to go in. Me? I clung to the back of my son's shirt through the entire thing. And we went during the day. At night, it's MUCH more frightening. So, if you live on the East Coast and a lover of the big scare...take the time to check out this attraction.  [...]

Sea Monsters

I was browsing MetaPicture when I came across this picture. The fact that someone actually hates the sea is completely foreign to me. I love the ocean. I live by it. I love being on boats.   I do have several friends who feel this way... they're terribly afraid of what lurks unseen below the surface. That said, I thought it would be fun to share a few creatures that per mythology, people used to believe dwelled in the sea. Who knows, maybe they still do! Here are some of my favorite sea monsters!   Mermaid A legendary aquatic creature with the head and[...]

Ask The Midnight Society – Part One

The Midnight Society wanted to help our readers get to know them a little better, so periodically we'll be running "Ask the Midnight Society" where a question is asked and our members answer! Feel free to leave questions in the comments below for us to answer next time. Let's jump right off. This week we asked two different questions. 1. What is the scariest thing that has ever happened to you? and 2. What are your writing / editing habits? Here is what we had to say... What is the scariest thing that has ever happened to you? [color-box] Amy: One day when[...]

Top 5 SyFy Channel Movies

I love quality scary movies. I love the psychological horrors that make you think for days after. (Snowpiercer is latest one that comes to mind.) Terrors that are layered and stylized and beautiful: always enjoyable. They are like the meat and veggies of my horror diet. But sometimes we just want junk food, guys. Sometimes we don't want a carrot, we want a Snickers. We want empty calories that make us smile and sigh... calories that are almost always followed by an unladylike belch and a tad of self-loathing. And that's where the SyFy Channel comes in. I love[...]

DOLLS- A Great Scary Movie

I've made it no secret that clowns use to scare the living heck outta me. My teenage son got me over this fear by having clowns chase me at our local amusement park. Poltergeist is yet another movie I watched that build up a huge fear of clowns, but I never talk about my fear of dolls. DOLLS, a horror movie from 1984, definitely has a lot to do with my childhood fear of dolls. This is yet another movie I watched at my next door neighbor's house (also saw POLTERGEIST here in 3rd grade). In the '80s, you could get illegal cable using what we called a "black box."[...]

Review: Welcome to the Dark House by Laurie Faria Stolarz

So last week, while reading the young adult horror novel Welcome to the Dark House by Laurie Faria Stolarz, I couldn't help but to gush to everyone who would listen about how much I loved this book. I loved it so much. that last week I even wrote a post where I dream-casted the main characters in this book. It was a blast! And to top it off, the person I used to cast the main character Ivy, happened to be the same person that the author envisioned for the role. How cool is that? She did a great job with characterization for the reader to envision the right person[...]

Lessons in Cryptozoology: Finding Bigfoot

A new community education class has been scheduled in Houston, TX, and it’s all about finding monsters. Local Bigfoot enthusiast and researcher Rob Riggs seeks to enlighten East Texans about the mysterious animals and lights that have been seen in the Big Thicket National Preserve, sightings he attributes to either geomagnetic fields affecting hikers’ perceptions, or temporary wormholes to other dimensions. Riggs has been studying Wild Ape sightings in Texas for years, and has even published a book on the subject, but wants to make sure that his research is[...]
