Today, we’re gifting you writing prompts! Below you’ll find 5 spooky writing prompts to keep you writing through the holidays. Extra credit points to those of you who dare go b[...]

Blog Tour: Monsterland by Michael Okon

Hello boys and ghouls, Welcome to Monsterland, the scariest place on earth. When I first heard of this book, I had some serious RL Stine vibes in my head. One Day at Horrorland, anyone? Which was exciting for me because I freaking love RL Stine and I was pumped that someone else was writing a story about a dangerous theme park filled with monsters... Seriously, that would be like a dream date. This concept has been done with Jurassic Park or Westworld, but it hasn't really been done in YA before, with vampires and werewolves. I was super excited about this book[...]

Unforgettable

Oh, hello there,   It's been a while since we had a good chat. Too long, if you ask me. I took some time off. My brain got a little twisted but I'm back. I spent this week thinking about what I wanted to chat about. The obvious would be Halloween. It is, after all, nearly here. So I started checking out cool Halloween movies that flew under the radar and googling weird Halloween traditions from around the globe but I just kept thinking about death. Not mine, mind you. No, not yours either. I'm thinking about theirs. **TRIGGER** Actual death descrip[...]

Broken Chords, Bayliss, and Ballads

Hello, darlings!   It's been far too longed since I've graced this graveyard. I had an unfortunate turn of events that knocked me off kilter for a while, but I'm back. And what better way to return to the crypt than to bring a touch of fresh meat with me? Though she's no stranger to the dark side, I'm still absolutely thrilled to have her grace our little corner of the woods. Welcome, Jessica! ^^That's Jessica Bayliss ^^ Let's get things going, shall we?   What inspired you to write Broken Chords? BROKEN CHORDS was born because I had to pee in the m[...]

An Interview Without a Vampire

As our newest member of The Midnight Society could not be located for an interview on this, the day of her birth, I took the liberty of conducting it without her. The Davis Girl (TDG): Are you ready to be interviewed, Victoria Nations? Victoria Nations (VN): Yes! This is very exciting! Such an honor to be interviewed by THE The Davis Girl! Rumors of your interviewing prowess are not exaggerated! TDG: Very true. Hello Midnight Society Readers. I am joined today via imagicaffeine by Victoria Nations. Victoria, welcome.  VN: Thank you The Davis Girl! TDG:[...]

Decorating for Halloween

A few weeks ago I posted a few Pinterest boards dedicated to decorating for our favorite holiday. Today, I thought I'd share some of my own decorations. I am having a blast slowly adding skeletons and fun trinkets to the nooks and crannies of my house.   This is the first thing you see when you walk in my front door. During the summer, sea shells and blue candles adorn the small table. I found the small skulls at Target--one of my go to places.   I love the look of book spines, so of course I stacked two copies of Dracula and topped them off with a[...]

The Summer of Screams Is Ending, But the Frightening Fall Has Just Begun!

We here at the Midnight Society had a blast celebrating the Summer of Screams. Not only was there an amazing writing and art showcase hosted by our amazing founder Jolene Haley (which you can check out here), but my fellow Midnighter Kathy Palm and I live-tweeted three flicks from my favorite franchise ever, Friday the 13th! In fact, we had so much fun that we can't stop just because summer is over. So, welcome to the Frightening Fall. We'll be live-tweeting more Friday the 13ths, as well as some of our favorite '80s horror flicks, throughout the next few mont[...]

Let’s Watch a Horror Movie…Friday the 13th

This month will be a special horror movie live-tweet event! We will be heading to summer camp and watching THREE movies. All in the Friday the 13th franchise. Why? Well... Our fabulous fearless leader Jolene hosts a writer/artist showcase where she posts stories and art on her blog. Each year she has a different theme and likes these creations to be a little creepy. I have been honored to be a part of the last three themes: haunted house, harvest festival, and haunted hotel. This year will be my fourth. I can't tell you how wonderful it is to unite artists, to c[...]

Book Review: I Am Not A Serial Killer by Dan Wells

TLDR: I Am Not a Serial Killer is amazing and I would probably sell organs to get the rest of the books in the series, if there was a short supply. Long version: The name Dan Wells kept popping up on all of the Goodreads lists that I searched. It's usually of the dark variety, such as murder or serial killers, etc. I had skimmed a few reviews of I Am Not a Serial Killer for about ten seconds and many of them weren't positive. There didn't seem to be any complaints about his writing or pacing or storyline. Actually, people seemed to sing his writing praises. Mos[...]
