CHANNEL ZERO: NO-END HOUSE Is Disturbingly Great

I really, really enjoyed the first season of SyFy's Channel Zero series, Candle Cove. While it had its rough spots, the premise of a super creepy kids' show coupled with some great imagery carried the season. Season two of the Creepypasta-inspired series is not short on frightening imagery either, but it's so much deeper and consistently disturbing that it surpasses the first season in almost every way. https://youtu.be/LW7zWck0VAQ Titled "No-End House," this season's story begins with the legend of a haunted house that appears in a random location once per[...]

Stare at TWIN PEAKS Long Enough, And You’ll See It

God, I love Twin Peaks. And I love David Lynch. I recently posted on my own blog about what an inspiration Lynch is for me, particularly in how he stays true to his ideas. But for this post I want to focus on something else, because I know that Lynch's work is not for everyone. Some people find the pacing of Twin Peaks agonizing, it's humor cartoonish and it's soap opera presentation off-putting. As a kid who grew up watching General Hospital and Days of Our Lives, I adore it. But even if you don't care for Lynch's style, I still think there is a lot for you to[...]

Twin Peaks Is a Must-Watch for Horror Fans

I love David Lynch. He infuses everything he creates with a weirdness that is almost cosmic. There is a disturbing undertone to all of his works that is punctuated by moments of outright terror. Each of his films and shows are filled with moments that once you've seen them stay embedded in your mind forever. He has a way of placing the viewer inside of someone else's dream (or nightmare), and making us reflect on the darker parts of ourselves. I came to David Lynch by way of Eraserhead (1977), Blue Velvet (1986) and Wild at Heart (1990), the latter of which[...]

Addams Family Mansion LEGO SET!

We all went through a phase where we wanted to live in the Addams Family Mansion. Right? Well, now you can. If you're very, very short. Hopefully. So over on the LEGO ideas site, users can vote for ideas they want to see become sets. If an idea gets 10k votes (not an easy feat) that idea is then put through for review for possible production. The Addams Family Mansion has recently pulled those 10k votes and is on it's way to (hoepfully) being approved and turned into an official lego set! You can read an interview with the designer of the set on the LEGO id[...]

Channel Zero: Candle Cove Is a Wonderful, Mysterious Nightmare

When I first saw the trailer for SyFy's new series Channel Zero: Candle Cove, I was immediately in. Just the flashed of disturbing imagery and the premise of a creepy kids TV show were enough to pique my interest. https://youtu.be/z0t9pCnRW4o For those that are not familiar, the premise of Channel Zero is that it's based on Creepypastas, short horror stories that often are played off as message board conversations or posts, making readers question whether or not they could actually be real. The first season of Channel Zero is based on a popular Creepypasta na[...]

Scream Queens Is Back!

Scream Queens returned this week, and I couldn't be happier. I freaking love this show. And maybe the thing I love about it the most is just how much it embraces the humorous side of horror. See, I grew up on '80s b-horror movies, which means I like my horror with a big side of cheese. Evil Dead, Return of the living Dead, Night of the Creeps--there are plenty of examples of horror and humor going hand. Don't get me wrong--I love straight up terrifying horror as well--but I actually prefer to read those kinds of stories. When it comes to shows and movies, I wa[...]

Horror Coming Soon to a TV Near You

I LOVE TV, especially horror on TV. I always have. Every fall brings new seasons of shows I love, but also NEW SHOWS! Oh, the possibilities! Sure they could suck. Sure they could get canceled even though I love them. Sure ALL THE THE WAYS WE COULD BE DISAPPOINTED... But. BUT. They could be awesome. These shiny new shows could stick around forever and keep our horror-loving little hearts all full of sparkly darkness and blood pumping creepiness. Four brand spankin' scary (hopefully!) new shows caught my attention. The SyFy channel brings three of the four.[...]

The Stranger Things Soundtrack is Out! Get it now!

It’s no secret that I love Stranger Things. In fact, I’m so bold as to say that I think it’s one of the best shows I’ve seen in my life. Yep. Seriously.   One of the things I love most about this show is the thing that my writing partner Brian LeTendre and I talk about a lot…music. Soundtrack is such a huge part of any successful horror movie or show. I’m a huge fan of John Carpenter for this reason. You know, the legendary director and composer behind some of the best horror soundtracks ever? (My favorite is the synth driven Halloween, Hallow[...]

Stranger Things

If you have been anywhere on social media lately, I'm sure you've heard about the Netflix show, Stranger Things. Winona Ryder stars in this horror series, one that is very reminiscent of 80s movies. I mean, back then there was little technology so directors used music to create tension. Without that famous score, how else did you know that Jason was about to come out and grab a new victim? From posters celebrating hits from the 80s, to the dangling phone receiver, to the creepy white van that drives down the street--Stranger Things brings back real fear using the[...]
