Horror Writer Interview #3- Jennifer Brinkmeyer

When I first put the call out on Twitter asking for woman horror writers to contact me because I wanted to interview them, I have to say...I didn't expect this turn out. I've learned a lot from these talented ladies. This week's interview focuses on Jennifer Brinkmeyer. She's currently seeking representation for her manuscript: SEED OF BODY. We all wish her the VERY best of luck!   1.  What does the word “horror” mean to you? Horror means being scared by the what-if and the what-would-I do-if. A lot of times I’ll make fun of what’s happening in a[...]

Horror Writer Interview #2: Jenna Lehne

I am super excited to bring to our little corner of the cemetery, yet another interview with horror writer Jenna Lehne! Seriously love her answers, especially to #3. Enjoy!   Interview 1.  Why write horror? What draws you to writing in this genre?   I like scaring people. I’m the kind of person that will hide behind the front door for half an hour just so I can jump out and scare you.   I started writing horror because there’s so much to work with. People are afraid of everything. My friend, for example, is afraid of balloons. Another is[...]

Women Horror Writers: An Interview with Amy Lukavics

Last week I put a call out asking women writers of horror to touch base with me about a new series I'm adding here on the blog. Very quickly, I received five enthusiastic responses. Amy Lukavics, gotta love her first name, is a huge fan of horror. I love her enthusiasm about our blog and she seems like a gem! Her novel, DAUGHTERS UNTO DEVILS, is soon to be published with Harlequin Teen. Check it out on Goodreads here: http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/18748653-daughters-unto-devils Thanks to Amy for allowing us into her mind and sharing her love of horror with[...]

Camp NaNoWriMo – Horror Style

Are any of you doing Camp NaNoWriMo? Now, I know that Camp NaNoWriMo isn't completely horror related, but it just so happens that the novel I'm working on for Camp NaNoWriMo is a YA horror novel, titled Katherine In the Lighthouse. Because if there's one thing that I think the young adult and new adult writing community needs, it's horror. The novel I'm working on is for an idea I had a while ago. I started writing it and I quickly fell in love with the concept and the characters. And then I had one of those realizations that you dread as an author. That what I[...]

Bad Writing as Inspiration: Happy Birthday to Me!

It’s my birthday today! So, because I love you all very much, I sat down and watched the seriously terrible 1981 slasher film Happy Birthday To Me. It’s bad. Really bad. And not even in that “so bad it’s good way”. Nope, just bad. But the film did leave me thinking about what we can learn from bad writing. By studying the places the script for Happy Birthday to Me went so horribly off the rails, what lessons can we apply to our own stories, particularly within gory tales of suspense and murder? (This review/analysis is going to be full of spoilers, but[...]
